SIBU, Jan 28: Authorities have been urged to quickly repair a pothole at the Sibu-Selangau Road as many motorists have experienced flat tyres, such as Albert Tay.
The shipping executive said he was driving his family to Miri for the Chinese New Year celebration at about 5.30am today when his car hit a pothole.
“It was quite dark, so I did not spot the pothole in time to avoid it. The front and back tyres on the left side of my car burst after hitting the hole,” he said.
Tay, 55, roughly estimated the pothole to be two feet in diameter and about eight inches deep.
The pothole is near the Kenso Pelita Narub-Tamin oil palm plantation office, about a 20-minute drive to Selangau.
“A car in front of us also hit the pothole. So I had to call a tyre shop in Selangau to replace my two tyres, and it took them an hour to do so,” he said, adding that it cost him RM500 for the new tyres.
The shop owner told him that the pothole had been there for three months, and many vehicles also had their tyres damaged.
“I sincerely hope that the authorities concerned would look into the matter urgently before more damage is done, especially when Chinese New Year is just around the corner, and many people would be using the road,” he said. — DayakDaily
