KUCHING, July 26: Authorities will be making efforts to right and float the capsized MV Tung Seng vessel tomorrow (July 27) to aid in the search operation for the bodies of four missing crew members near Pulau Burung, Sebuyau.
The search and rescue (SAR) operation for the missing crew members has been ongoing for seven days now.
An update from Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak revealed the search operation will be extended until tomorrow inside the vessel if the vessel can be successfully floated.
Tomorrow’s operation will primarily focus on the location of the shipwreck using assets at sea. The Nalaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), marine police, and Sarawak Coastal Guard (SCG) will be assigned to monitor the righting and floating of MV Tung Seng on the site.
Bomba Sarawak emphasised that righting the vessel could take anywhere from a minimum of three days to a maximum of seven days.
During the operation to right and float the vessel, searches will also be carried out on the vessel by rescue teams comprising MMEA, marine police and SCG personnel.
At the LSS Sebuyau jetty, Bomba and Civil Defence Force (APM) will be prepared to receive any bodies recovered by the rescue teams.
Today’s SAR operation covered a 40 to 45-kilometre radius in Pulau Burung waters, but as of 5pm today, there have been no new signs of the missing crew members.
On July 22, four of eight missing crew members from the capsized MV Tung Seng were found dead after the vessel sank in Sebuyau waters.
However, the identities of the four bodies have not been publicly disclosed yet.
