Authorities seize RM6.3 mln illegal frozen food, fireworks in Sibu, Miri; four locals arrested

KUCHING, Jan 3: The Sarawak Brigade of the General Operations Force (GOF) has made a significant breakthrough in their operations, seizing goods worth RM6.3 million and arresting four individuals during two separate raids conducted from Jan 1 to 3, 2025.

Commander SAC Dr Che Ghazali Che Awang reported that in the first operation on Jan 2, a team from its 12th Battalion raided premises in Miri suspected of storing illegal frozen food products.

“The team detained a 55-year-old local man and uncovered 81,294 kilogrammes of frozen food, valued at RM3.2 million.

“The seized items were handed over to the Sarawak Department of Veterinary Services for further investigation under the Veterinary Public Health Ordinance 1999,” he said in a statement today.

The second success came on the same day in Sibu, where officers from the 10th Battalion raided a premises suspected of storing fireworks and firecrackers.

Che Ghazali disclosed that three local men, aged between 26 and 39, were arrested after 730 boxes of fireworks were found, with a total market value of RM3.1 million.

“The fireworks were seized and the suspects were handed over to the Sibu Criminal Investigation Department for further action under the Explosives Act 1957,” he added.

Che Ghazali emphasised that the combined seizures reflect the GOF’s ongoing commitment to curbing illegal activities and maintaining public safety across Sarawak. — DayakDaily
