Authorities arrest 47 in Pulau Kerto during raid on cockfighting ring

SIBU, Jan 5: Forty-seven people have been arrested for involvement in illegal cockfighting in Pulau Kerto near here on Saturday (Jan 4) evening.

Sibu district police chief, ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit disclosed the men were heavily engrossed in the activity at about 5.15pm when a team from 10th Battalion General Operation Force of about 36 personnel conducted the surprise raid.

Also seized from the suspects were RM6,974, 82 cockfighting spurs, seven live cocks, a weighing machine, a calculator, 820 round chips, a machete, a bell, two holo gambling sets and a wall clock.


The suspects had been remanded for investigation.

“This place is a favorite for such activity as last year, a total 34 people were arrested and charged in court for similar offenses,” Stanley revealed. — DayakDaily
