Atlantic Council leadership programme delegates’ 2-day visit in Kuching to focus on renewable energy, conservation

KUCHING, Feb 11: Forty delegates from the Atlantic Council Millennium Leadership Programme Malaysia Study Tour arrived here last night (Feb 10) for a two-day working visit.

The purpose of the visit is for the delegates to understand renewable energy initiatives as well as environmental conservation efforts in Sarawak, says the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas).

In addition, it also plans to expose delegates to Sarawak’s efforts in leading green energy and environmental conservation, as well as strengthen cooperation between international and State parties in sustainable development.

Today, the delegation will visit the Borneo Cultures Museum for a briefing on renewable energy by Sarawak Energy, Sarawak’s hydrogen aspirations by Sarawak Economic Development Corporation Energy (SEDCE), and the role of Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) in preserving the State’s national parks and wildlife.

The delegation is also scheduled to visit the Chitose Carbon Capture Central C4 before continuing to visit the Sarawak Cultural Village.

In the evening, the delegation will attend a reception dinner at a hotel, which Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is also expected to attend.

Tomorrow (Feb 12), the delegation will have a site visit to an oil palm plantation and then proceed for lunch before heading to Plants for Plastic to participate in a roundtable session on environmental conservation efforts conducted by Sarawak Eco Warriors.

The Atlantic Council promotes constructive leadership and engagement in international affairs based on the Atlantic Community’s central role in meeting global challenges.
