KUCHING, Aug 3: Astana Negeri Sarawak has dismissed rumours and reassured the people of Sarawak regarding the improving health condition of Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.
Private sectary to the Governor of Sarawak Junih Salleh Ahmad said Astana Negeri is aware that the health of the Head of State has been the subject of public rumours despite assurance from both the Astana and Sarawak Premier’s Office that he is currently recuperating overseas.
“God-willing, with his doctor’s advice, he will come home very soon.
“We hope the people will be patient and not be easily hoodwinked by unverified news and speculations on Tun’s current health,” he advised in an official statement issued today.
This statement comes in response to the widespread dissemination of false information via social media platforms about the Sarawak Governor in recent days with one being monochromatic graphics bearing the inscription “Al-Fatihah” related to Taib and featuring the Astro Awani logo.
Astro Awani late yesterday evening firmly denied involvement in the creation of the fake graphics and urged the public to abstain from circulating such spurious material.
On a related note, Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has also today confirmed that Taib has recovered after falling ill while travelling overseas, but is presently in the process of recuperation abroad.
Abang Johari added that Taib has plans to return home to Sarawak once the final medical report is released. — DayakDaily
