KUCHING, June 23: Astana Negeri Sarawak has assured that the Governor of Sarawak Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud is well and in good stead.
In an official statement released today, private secretary to the Governor Junih Salleh Ahmad emphasised that all viral and unverified news, which are not from Astana Negeri Sarawak regarding the wellbeing of Taib in social media platforms, are “completely fake and untrue”.
“We hope that with this statement, all adverse reports and rumours regarding the Governor of Sarawak would be put to rest,” he said.
This statement came in response to widespread rumours in recent days suggesting that the 87-year-old Governor was en route to Turkey but the flight had to turn back as he was reportedly severely ill.
Subsequently, reports emerged claiming that Taib was in a medically induced coma and hospitalised at Normah Specialist Hospital.
Another version of the rumour placed him in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).
It was also reported that local media has been told to be on a stand-by.
Additionally, there was also unfounded rumours about his demise and speculations questioning about the declaration of a public holiday have been circulating widely. — DayakDaily
