KUCHING, July 30: Associations, enterprises or organisations sponsoring the ‘charity cats’ in front of the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) headquarters may decorate the statues with their respective corporate colours.

MBKS mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the first charity cat is sponsored by the members of the Association of Wives of Ministers and Assistant Ministers of Sarawak (Sabati).

“Sabati sponsored the cat. So, they can decorate the statue however they want, with the design they like.

“Other associations or enterprises interested in sponsoring and donating to charity may contact us.

“You’re allowed to paint the cat statue you sponsored with your corporate colour and leave the cats there for decoration,” he said during the ShallWeeTalk Facebook live session today.

Wee said the charity cat statues are not as tall as the White Cat Statue in Padungan, so children can easily take photos with them.

He said the idea of having a row of well-decorated cat statues symbolising Kuching city in front of the MBKS building originated from Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

“This is our minister’s idea. With a row of cats with different colours and designs at the entrance of MBKS, it will also attract visitors to come and take pictures,” said Wee. — DayakDaily
