KUCHING, Dec 10: The billboard featuring Sarawak People’s Aspiration Party’s (Aspirasi) candidate for N9 Padungan Lina Soo underwent a transformation today after receiving a warning from the Election Commission (EC) over its poster, which the commission deemed to be too provocative.
Soo, who is Aspirasi president said, as the campaigning period was very short with only a few days to go to polling, the party chose to comply with EC’s instructions rather than get into a legal tussle.
The billboard poster now only carries the battlecry ‘Sarawak Wake Up’ with the tagline ‘Rise Against Tyranny and Oppression’ which Soo described as her sentiment after her brush with the authorities.
“In an election which is free and fair, candidates should be able to articulate the aspiration and concerns of the voters.
“As long as there is no incitement to violence, the political party should be able to tell their voters what they can do for the people and country,” she said in a statement today.
Soo further urged Sarawakians to turn up to vote as she clarified that abstaining from voting will not reflect as a sign of protest, but also a symbol of surrender.
“Vote wisely, as the future of our children depend on our decisions and choices today,” she added. — DayakDaily
