Aspirasi to GPS: Please don’t form federal govt with race, religion based parties

Lina Soo

KUCHING, Nov 21: Parti Aspirasi Rakyat Sarawak (Aspirasi) abhors the thought of Sarawak forming the federal government with race and religion based political parties.

Its president Lina Soo said the party upholds the political ideology of separating race and religion from politics and government.

A democratic and functioning government must not interfere with religious freedoms of the people, Soo reiterated.

In this respect, she called upon the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) administration to wisely consider Pakatan Harapan to form the federal government.

“We are on the edge of the precipice, and the wrong decision by GPS at this pivotal moment will send Sarawak into a tailspin of neverending tyranny and religious extremism,” said Soo.

She cautioned GPS to exercise the best wisdom to decide which federal bloc to follow, or risk the wrath of the voters in next Sarawak Election in making a bad choice.

Following the 15th General Election, Pakatan Harapan holds 81 seats, PN has 73 seats under its belt, followed by BN (30), GPS (23), GRS (6), and other parties (8).

GPS chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced yesterday that the Sarawak coalition had agreed to work together with PN, BN and GRS to form the next federal government.

Abang Johari said Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) who is leading PN will be the preferred prime minister candidate.

In Sarawak, however, there is general fear and concern that Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) which is part of PN and has won 49 seats in GE15, may make Muhyiddin a puppet prime minister. — DayakDaily
