KUCHING, Oct 18: About 191 partipants from 16 cities are expected to participate in the 32nd Asian Intercity Bowling Championship 2018 which will be held here from October 29 to November 5 at Megalanes Sarawak, E-mart Batu Kawa.

Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah after meeting with the event organising committee yesterday told the press that he is pleased to see such an international event held in Sarawak.

He believed such an event could spur Sarawak’s tourism and local economic activities.

“When the participants come to participate in the event, their supporters, family members and friends would come with them as well to show their support. So it is good for Sarawak tourism industry players like hotels, restaurants and places of entertainment,” he said.

“When they come, they will surely visit places of entertainment, stay in hotels and eat in restaurants. So the hotels and restaurants will benefit too.”

Participants represent various locations around Asia including Bandar Seri Begawan, Macau, New Territories (Hong Kong), Kowloon, Hong Kong city, Happy Valley, Jeju, Paranaque, Pasay, Ho Chi Minh, Dededo, Tamuning, Shah Alam, Padawan and Kuching.

The event is an Asian Bowling Federation (ABF) sanctioned tournament and the second time Kuching will host the tournament, with the first time occurring in 2015.

Kuching has hosted two other international bowling events besides this — Sarawak International Tenpin Bowling Championship 2018 and World Para Bowling Tour 2018 Sarawak-Malaysia 2018. Both events had attracted over 500 international participants. — DayakDaily
