KUCHING, Nov 2: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg made a spectacular entrance at the closing ceremony of the Sarawak Regatta 2025 and Kuching Waterfront Festival 2025, arriving in style on a jet ski as he cruised across the Sarawak River today.
The Premier’s entrance quickly became the highlight of the day, drawing loud cheers and applause from the crowd gathered along Kuching Waterfront.
His arrival served as a light-hearted gimmick for the closing ceremony, adding a touch of excitement to the annual river festival’s closing ceremony.
The scene reflected the fun and festive spirit that has long defined the regatta, a tradition deeply rooted in Sarawak’s river culture.
In attendance were His Royal Highness, the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, and Her Royal Highness, Tengku Ampuan Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, who excitedly recorded the moment using their smartphones.

Their Royal Highnesses’ presence was part of their itinerary for their four-day official visit to Sarawak.
Sarawak governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar was also among those present.
The Sarawak Regatta, held annually at the Kuching Waterfront, remains one of the most anticipated events in Sarawak, attracting thousands of visitors to celebrate camaraderie, competition, and Sarawak’s enduring bond with its rivers. — DayakDaily
