LUNDU, April 5: The Malaysian army has thwarted a local man’s attempt to smuggle a car out of Sarawak at the Rimbunan oil palm plantation near the Kandaie post just 50 metres from the Malaysia-Indonesia border yesterday.

The First Infantry Division in a statement today said an army team was conducting a patrol around 10.10pm when it came across a Proton Exora driven by a 28-year-old local man.

“Further inspection found that the vehicle did not have valid road tax and it is believed to be in the process of getting smuggled out to be sold in Indonesia.

“The suspect and the vehicle worth around RM45,000 were handed over to Lundu police for further investigation,” the division said.

In a separate incident at the same location, another patrol team spotted three Indonesians behaving suspiciously about 300 metres from the border.

The men aged between 38 and 41 were suspected of attempting to enter Sarawak via an illegal route.

“All suspects were handed over to the Indonesian army from the Kumba Semunying post and a police report was lodged at Lundu District Police Station,” the division added. — DayakDaily
