Army personnel on border patrol duty reported missing near Malaysia-Brunei border

KUCHING, June 21: A member of the 7th Battalion of the Border Regiment from Base Camp Kidurong in Bintulu has been reported missing near the Malaysia-Brunei border.

According to a press statement from the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) today, Private Muhammad Syafiq Hilmi Abd Halim went missing on June 18 at approximately 12pm while on duty in Operation Survey (Op Survey) in Limbang, Sarawak, alongside the Department of Survey and Mapping Malaysia (JUPEM) Sarawak.

Following that, efforts to locate him were immediately carried out by the group consisting of two (2) ATM members and five (5) JUPEM members, but failed to find the missing soldier.

On June 19, ATM has intensified the search efforts with the cooperation of the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) as well as other public agencies coordinated by the National Security Council (MKN), namely the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).

The Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) have also deployed their assets to support the joint search efforts.
