KUCHING, May 4: The appointment of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Santubong branch chief Ahmad Nazib Johari as the new Department of Communications (J-KOM) Sarawak director has received the blessing of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Ahmad Nazib said this himself at the PKR Kuching, Stampin and Santubong branches’ Aidilfitri open house at Jalan Satok here today.
“The J-KOM Sarawak director is a Federal position, so the appointment was made under the Prime Minister’s office.
“Indeed, at the earlier stage, my name was submitted by the Prime Minister’s office to SPA (Public Services Commission of Malaysia).
“It was approved by SPA, and it also got the blessings from the Prime Minister. Only at the State level that the appointment was not agreed,” he told reporters.
Following the disapproval of Sarawak, Ahmad Nazib said another name was proposed by the Sarawak government.
Therefore, the decision now lies with the J-KOM Malaysia director general and there has not been any decision made.
Ahmad Nazib was responding to Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice president Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah who questioned, on April 9, the Federal government’s sincerity over the rumoured appointment of Ahmad Nazib without first consulting Sarawak.
To this, Ahmad Nazib reiterated that the J-KOM Sarawak director position is a Federal position, and therefore theFederal government is not obligated to consult Sarawak before any appointment.
Also present at the Aidilfitri open house were PKR deputy chairman Senator Abun Sui Anyit, PKR Kuching branch chief Dominique Ng, and Stampin branch chief David Chow. — DayakDaily
