KUCHING, Feb 25: SUPP Public Complaints Bureau (SUPP PCB) is appealing to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to consider giving a one-off RM3,000 vacation subsidy to a civil servant who has served more than 20 years in the Sarawak government.

According to SUPP PCB chief Wilfred Yap, the application is for the benefit of a civil servant surnamed Kueh, who currently served as an administrative assistant at a state department.

“Her application was turned down because the period of her service as a daily paid worker was not included as part of her term of service. She first commenced work as a daily paid employee with the Sarawak government in 1981 and her terms of service was only converted to a monthly paid employee in 2009,” he explained in a statement today.

Madam Kueh informed that only Sarawak civil servants who had served more than 20 years or more were entitled to the one-off vacation subsidy of RM3,000 under “Pekeliling Perjawatan Negeri Sarawak Bilangan 20 Tahun 2019”.

“It is learnt that Madam Kueh has served the Sarawak government faithfully for the last 38 years and she is disappointed that her application for was not approved by her department because the calculation of the period of her public service did not reach twenty years.

“Madam Kueh would be entitled for the subsidy if her term of service had included the time when she served the Sarawak government as a daily paid employee,” he said.

As such, Yap appealed to Abang Johari to consider the predicament faced by Madam Kueh and others suffering the fate.

“This is because Sarawak government employees who started on the daily paid scheme deserved the same recognition as other Sarawak monthly paid civil servants for their dedication and contribution to public service,” he added.
