KUCHING, Aug 7: The stations in Samarahan and Kuching have recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings at 135 and 133, respectively, as of 10am today.
According to the API Management System (APIMS), all stations Statewide recorded moderate readings, with Sarikei nearly reaching unhealthy levels with an API reading of 90, followed by Sibu and Sri Aman with 86 each and Bintulu (83).
Additionally, Mukah recorded an API reading of 76, followed by Mukah (76), Samalaju (75), Miri (66), ILP Miri and Kapit (60), and Limbang (57). The readings for the station in Serian were unavailable.
Previously, Sarawak Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) director Khairul Najib said haze affecting several areas in Sarawak due to transboundary smoke from West Kalimantan is expected to persist as prevailing seasonal winds continue to blow from the southeast.
He said the current weather pattern, coupled with hotspots detected in West Kalimantan, has contributed to hazy conditions, particularly in Kuching, Samarahan, Sri Aman, and Kapit. — DayakDaily
