‘Anugerah Tangan Emas Premier Sarawak 2023’ title and RM5,000 awaits overall winner of 3rd WorldSkills Malaysia Sarawak 2023

KUCHING, Nov 29: A cash prize of RM5,000, the prestigious ‘Anugerah Tangan Emas Premier Sarawak 2023’ title, a trophy, and a certificate will be awarded to the overall winner of the 3rd WorldSkills Malaysia Sarawak (WSMS) 2023 competition, according to Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn.

The Education, Innovation, and Talent Development (MEITD) Minister also stated that the winners of WSMS 2023 will be eligible to compete in WSMS 2024 and will then go on to represent the State and the country in ASEAN, ASIA Worldskills international competitions.


Roland noted that the winner will receive a cash prize of RM3,000, a medal, and a certificate; the first runner up will receive a cash prize of RM1,500, a medal, and a certificate; and the second runner up will receive a cash prize of RM1,000, a medal, and a certificate.

“WSMS 2023 is a bi-annual State-level skills competition jointly organised by my ministry in collaboration with Jabatan Pembangunan Kemahiran (JPK) Wilayah Sarawak. WorldSkills Malaysia Sarawak competition is an offshoot of Malaysia Worldskills.

“Malaysia has been a member of WorldSkills International (WSI) since 1993. Sarawak is the only State in Malaysia organising the skills competition aiming to recognise highly skilled youths, and to improve the skills of trainees from public and private Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions in Sarawak.

“With this competition, instructors will also receive exposure to the new technology and related skills standard,” he told reporters during a press conference on the competition held in the Media Room at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) complex here today.

Sagah revealed that WSMS 2023 will be held in two stages, with the pre-qualification stage held from Oct 28 to Oct 31, 2023, with a total of 380 contestants competing in 16 skill areas to select the best six contestants from each skill area, who will then compete in the final competition.

The 16 skill areas include automobile technology, beauty therapy, fashion technology, hairdressing, cooking, pastry, restaurant service, electrical installations, mechanical engineering CAD, graphic design technology, IT network system administration, IT software solution for business, web technologies, painting and decorating, refrigeration and air-conditioning, and welding.

“The final competition is scheduled from Dec 9 to Dec 10, 2023. As of date, a total of 90 participants from the TVET training institutions are qualified to compete across 16 skill areas in the final competition which will be held at the seven TVET venues.

“The closing ceremony of the 3rd WSMS 2023 competition will be officiated at by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg on Monday afternoon, Dec 11, 2023 at Centexs, Santubong, where he will present the ‘Anugerah Tangan Emas Premier Sarawak’ title to the overall champion from all the 16 competing skill areas,” he added. — DayakDaily
