KUCHING, July 3: The Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) has launched an anti-rabies campaign to fight rabies in Kota Samarahan.

Its chairman Datuk Peter Minos in a press statement revealed the campaign was launched in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government and Housing (MLGH) to combat the spread of rabies in the state.

“We and the other councils are taking the cue and doing our part with good advice from MLGH.

“Rabies is such a bad nuisance to the community. (Therefore), we must fully support the local government in getting rid of rabies, in whatever way we can.

“Local councils are at the frontline in this anti-rabies war. This is a serious war and we must win it,” he emphasised.

Minos revealed among those attending the launch of the anti-rabies campaign yesterday were representatives from MPKS, MLGH, Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak, the police and other government agencies.

He noted that the more recent case of rabies reported in the state involved a victim from Sibu.

He lauded the fast response of the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) to contain rabies from spreading as an example that other local councils should emulate in fighting the spread of rabies throughout Sarawak. — DayakDaily
