Sawmill in Long Lama busted for possession of illegal logs

A sawmill in Miri was found to possess illegal logs.

MIRI, Sept 15: A joint enforcement team comprising officers from Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) Miri Regional Office and the Marine Police raided a sawmill located at KM 23, Jalan SK Long Keseh Lama on September 11.

According to a press statement issued by SFC today, the joint operation resulted in the detention of 16 pieces of Belian, a forklift, three vehicles, three sets of the generator and a bandsaw believed to have been used to process timber products.

Part of the detained logs have property mark but later they have been verified to be illegal due to the absence of ‘JH’ hammer mark.


A sawmill in Miri was raided by SFC and the Marine Police.

SFC chief executive officer (CEO) Zolkipli Mohamad Aton said that the success of the raid was made possible by the cooperation between the agencies.

“Therefore, more joint operations by SFC with other enforcement agencies will be conducted to eradicate illegal activities,” he added.

No suspect was spotted during the raid.

A report on the raid has been lodged at the Long Lama police station.

The case has been handed over to the Forest Department on September 13 for further investigation. — DayakDaily
