Another children’s home grips by Covid-19 outbreak after 17 people infected

KUCHING, Sept 18: Another children’s home at Jalan Poh Kwong along KM19 Off Jalan Kuching-Serian here has been gripped by a fresh Covid-19 outbreak with 17 cases confirmed so far to become one of the three new clusters declared in Sarawak today.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily updates on Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, reported that the KM19 Jalan Kuching-Serian Cluster in Kuching here involved the staff and residents of the home.

A total of 93 individuals have been screened, whereby 76 have tested negative with no lab test results pending.

All positive cases have been referred to either Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) or the Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) Kuching.

A community cluster is also identified in Kanowit dubbed the Nanga Sesamak Cluster with 39 positive cases reported involving a longhouse located in the Nanga Sesamak area.

A total of 48 individuals have been screened, out of which nine have tested negative while no lab test results are pending. All positive cases have been referred to either Sibu Hospital or the PKRC Kanowit.

A workplace cluster was declared in Telang Usan called the Pelut Baram Cluster after 37 people came down with Covid-19, out of which 35 cases were reported today.

It involved a logging camp under Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) located at Pelutan.

A total of 147 individuals have been screened, whereby 110 have tested negative and no lab test results are pending.

All the positive cases have been referred to the Covid-19 Assessment Centre (CAC) Telang Usan.

SDMC has also today declared the end of the Jalan Seringgok Cluster in Bau, after no new local cases were reported in the past 28 days.

With that, the number of active clusters in Sarawak now stood at 138, out of which 13 clusters have registered an increase in daily infections with a total of 113 cases contributed to today’s caseload of 2,929.

They are the new Pelut Baram Cluster which added 35 more cases; Long Urun Cluster (30 cases); Nansang Wak Cluster (10 cases); Duras Cluster (8 cases); Kampung Sikog Cluster and Pinang Jawa Cluster (6 cases each); Lubuk Bukut Cluster (5 cases); Bungey 2 Cluster and KM20 Jalan Betong Cluster (4 cases each); Kampung Dangak Clyster (2 cases); while Bandar Baru Mukah Cluster, Mundai Cluster and Sungai Pana Cluster picked up one case each.— DayakDaily
