KUCHING, Feb 25: Sarawak is not just investing to meet the current needs of the people but also for its future, says analyst Dato Peter Minos.

In a press release issued today, he said initiatives like AirBorneo, the new airport and deep-sea port, coastal highways, major bridges, the Pan Borneo Highway, Petros, and Affin Bank are set to be a game-changer for Sarawak.

“This is because each of them will affect the lives of Sarawakians—now and in the future.

“Sarawak is investing for the future, preparing for a developed economic status and not just to meet the current needs of Sarawakians,” he said in the statement.

Touching on education, he said the Sarawak government’s focus on providing good education to the youth is also aimed at preparing for the future—including offering free tertiary education from 2026.

Minos added that securing revenues from PETRONAS and generating energy from hydro dams and other sources are also necessary to fund new projects, and he said without it, nothing will move.

“Our Premier (Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg) had repeatedly mentioned Sarawak’s intention of achieving a gross domestic product (GDP) of RM282 billion by 2030.

“That is truly ambitious and great. It will see Sarawak obtaining an economic and developed status,” he said.

Until then, he added, there will be a lot of challenges, and he reminded Sarawakians that the burden rests on everyone’s shoulders, not just the Premier’s. — DayakDaily
