KUCHING, April 12: After 10 years serving as chairman of Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS), Dato Peter Minos now has his eyes set on helping to achieve municipality status for Serian following his appointment as the new Serian District Council (MDS) chairman.
In a statement, Minos said he was prepared to retire but was taken by surprise when he was informed of his new role two weeks ago.
“I cannot reject the government’s offer. It is an honour to serve. I take it as a challenge, I will do my best,” he said.
Minos further added that he was tasked to focus on three things: To turn Serian into a municipality as he did with Samarahan, to work on a new headquarters for MDS, and to identify tourism and cultural sports to develop in Serian—on top of doing council services and shaping and improving things in MDS.
He noted that Serian is rapidly developing with various projects, some of which have been undertaken by MDS, saying that the council will focus on implementing them with no delays and no procrastinations.
“With the fullest support from my fellow councillors and staff, I am confident we can do it—and of course with guidance and assistance from the higher ups and other government agencies.
“My ten years in growing and developing Samarahan comes in handy. I liked it in Samarahan where there were many challenges and new things. I will miss Samarahan with fondness,” he said. — DayakDaily
