KUCHING, Dec 7: With how widespread shootings and drug use are in the United States (US), Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) said he would prefer Sarawak anytime.

In a press statement today, he said guns are too freely available and drug abuse is prevalent in the US, resulting in an unsafe society.

“You hear of shootings and killings in schools, universities, malls, and other public places. I do not want to live in such a country.

“Anytime, I prefer it here in Malaysia, especially Sarawak where there is peace and tranquillity,” he said.

In the press release, he said that MPKS had organised a special event to raise awareness of the dangers of drugs and crime in the community featuring impactful talks delivered in collaboration with the Samarahan police force.

“Many groups and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) from all over Samarahan attended the programme.

“As Samarahan is growing and progressing, it is important for us to nip social problems in the bud. There are some drug abuse activities that I heard about in Samarahan and that is why we must work closely with the police to stamp out this social menace,” he said.

He added crimes arise from taking drugs which must not be allowed to spread further.

“I have been in Samarahan since 2016 as MPKS chairman and I do find the place nice and congenial, quite free from drugs and crimes. We must keep this up. Let Samarahan be a safe and beautiful place to live in and study at.” — DayakDaily
