Alleged drug trafficker to go for mental evaluation at Hospital Sentosa

KUCHING, Jan 2: The Kuching High Court today ordered an unemployed man who is charged with drug trafficking to be sent to Hospital Sentosa for observation for a month on suspicion of him having a low intelligence quotient (IQ).

Judge Lee Heng Cheong ordered that the observation report be ready by Feb 8, and he fixed Feb 19 for further mention of the case.


Accused Zaki Haziq Bahiron, 21, was charged under Section 39B (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for trafficking 1,963 grams of Syabu. He is alleged to be in possession of the drug on May 4, 2018, at about 11am at his house in Lorong Semariang Batu 2.

This section of the Act carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.
