Miri, July 2: Seven individuals who went missing in the forest near the Bakam Waterfall here were safely accounted for today, following a distress call received by the Miri Central Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).
According to a statement from Bomba, one of the individuals called the Miri Central fire station control centre at around 3.14pm to report that the group was lost in the forest.
“The call was cut off mid-conversation, and subsequent attempts to reconnect with the caller were unsuccessful.
“Responding promptly, the Miri Central fire station mobilised a search and rescue operation.
“The fire department received assistance from local villagers to locate the group, and fortunately, all the lost victims were successfully found,” the statement read.
The seven individuals were identified as Mohd Aidit Alfian Mohamad Faizuratul Izwan (19), Mohamad Ramadan Abdul Rahman (21), Mohammad Shahrizan Sahalie (21), Muhammad Azamuddin Padil (20), Mohamad Syaqirul Faqih Kamis (19), Mohammad Shiraz Ramirez Abdullah Mohamad Imran (22), and Hafiszuddin Husman (20).
One member of the group sustained a minor hand injury after slipping while navigating the area. No further rescue operations were required as all individuals were found safe.
After ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all individuals, the Bomba team returned to their station.
Bomba further advised the public to inform local residents before embarking on recreational activities in unfamiliar areas to avoid similar incidents in the future. — DayakDaily
