KUCHING, Feb 25: All 18 MPs from Sarawak’s Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) were summoned to the Istana Negara this afternoon, to meet the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
“GPS parliamentary lawmakers met the King one by one. Each of them had about two to three minutes discussion and they’ve also filled out a form to confirm who they will support to lead Malaysia,” GPS chief whip Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said in a statement today.
Fadillah said all of the 18 MPs has expressed their support to Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, as agreed by top leadership of GPS.
In an unprecedented move, the King had decided to conduct a one-to-one interview of all MPs today and tomorrow at Istana Negara.
According to Bernama, the controller of the Royal Household for Istana Negara Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said the announcement came in the wake of political developments amid talks that there will be a realignment of the ruling coalition of parties.
The interviews come a day after Dr Mahathir resigned as the prime minister and was appointed as the interim prime minister. — DayakDaily
