BINTANGOR, June 24: Large scale algae cultivation can be considered for the 127-hectare land that has been set aside to establish an agro park in Sungai Baji, Sarikei.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas expressed optimism that the Sarawak government will decide on the best use of the land, including large scale algae cultivation for the proposed agro park.
“This algae cultivation is for the agency concerned to look into.
“But like I have said earlier, the Betong-Sarikei-Mukah food basket area has a lot of potentials,” he told reporters after officiating at the Mupong Unity Gawai event jointly organised by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) and Semop Constituency Service Centre at Mupong, near here today.
Additionally, Uggah, who is also Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, pointed out that the Sarawak government is in the midst of studying the development and functions of all five ports in the region so as to merge them into a single central port agency.
“Tanjung Manis Port near the Rajang River has a unique situation where two ports existed namely the Tanjung Manis and the Rejang Ports.
“The objective is to merge the five port authorities into a single central port agency to streamline and enhance their operations and profitability,” he elaborated.
