MIRI, August 17: An alert resident in Morsjaya and Resident Committees (RCs) of Riam and Lopeng land two men in the police lockup after they attempted to break into a vacant house ostensibly to steal a mattress.
The resident spotted the duo, both in their 20s, when they parked the motorcycle they were riding in front of their victim’s house at around 8.30pm yesterday. Noticing their suspicious behaviours, the concerned resident immediately alerted the RCs.
The whole episode was also captured by a surveillance camera (CCTV) fitted in the alert resident’s house.
When the two suspects realised that their presence was being watched, they immediately flee the scene on the motorcycle, but the RCs who were by then on standby at a nearby area managed to collar them after a 500m or so pursuit.
“Their (suspects) motorcycle went out of control right after they rode past Riam Cemetery and fell. That’s when we caught them,” said an RC Riam member, adding they also seized house-breaking tools from the duo.
The suspects were later handed over to the police. — DayakDaily
