Alena’s nominations at Buenos Aires Music Video Festival a S’wak pride

KUCHING, Nov 17: Notable singer-songwriter and sape player Alena Murang has been nominated for ‘Best International Video’ and ‘Best Styling’ awards in this year’s Buenos Aires Music Video Festival to be held on Nov 27 to 29. 

Alena was nominated for her recent music video entitled ‘Midang Midang’ which showcased not only her musical talent but also depicted the colourful and unique fashion styles of Sarawak. 

More interestingly, Alena is also nominated alongside multi-award winner and pop singer Madonna and others notable artistes from all over the world in the ‘Best International Video’ category. 

In congratulating Sarawak’s very well known and home grown talent, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah emphasised that the nominations spoke great volume of Alena’s wonderful artistry and musical talent. 

“Yes, we are equally thrilled with the nominations that had been given to Alena and her team because it means a lot to all of us in Sarawak when stories about the unique local communities are being shared on international music platforms. 

“Alena was right when she said that even during the Covid19 pandemic, the music video clip which showed the Kelabit Highlands is still making its way through the prestigious festival and on the global stage,” he commended in a statement today. 

Coincidentally, the ‘Midang Midang’ music video which was produced by Project Room and Kanid which was filmed in Bario and Miri
was launched on Nov 27 last year with the support of Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) and Miri City Council (MCC).

Even though the Buenos Aires Music Video Festival 2020 is based in Argentina and will be held virtually, millions of netizens are expected to be following the proceedings on various social media platforms.

Abdul Karim pointed out that this augurs well for the promotion of Sarawak as a tourist destination for the future and beyond.

“With over 29,000 views on YouTube, we hope Alena’s music video will continue to become the window for the rest of the world to see how much Sarawak’s tourism has got to offer and to become one of the ‘must visit’ destination once the Covid19 situation has dramatically improves,” he added. — DayakDaily
