KUCHING, March 30: Minister of Transport Malaysia Anthony Loke assured that airfares to Sarawak and Sabah have remained lower and controlled this festive season.
In a Facebook post, he credited this to the government’s initiatives in setting price ceilings and the airlines’ commitment to increasing flight capacity during peak festive travel periods.
“This is a major challenge every festive season, but I am proud that this year we have not heard of anyone being unable to buy return flight tickets to Sabah, Sarawak, or excessively expensive flight tickets because we indeed have a maximum price policy during the festive season.
“Moreover, there are fixed-fare flights that are lower than our maximum price,” he said while meeting with passengers at an airport recently, as they travelled to Sabah and Sarawak for Hari Raya.
“It requires meticulous coordination between various parties: regulators, airlines, airport operators, and many others,” he added.
He also expressed his gratitude to the line-up of personnel such as air traffic controllers, cabin crew, pilots, and ground handlers who sacrifice their time and energy to ensure the smooth travel of Malaysians.
“This close cooperation reflects the true spirit of Malaysian society — united in the effort to achieve common goals despite different backgrounds. Safe travels and Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri,” Loke added.
According to a separate Facebook post, in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations, the Ministry of Transport, through its fixed airfare initiatives, has set MAS and Firefly one-way airfares to RM319 to Sarawak and RM389 to Sabah, while AirAsia’s one-way fares are set at RM328 to Sarawak and RM388 to Sabah. – DayakDaily
