Senator Jaziri Alkaf Abdillah Suffian

KUCHING, May 22: Bookings for the thrice-a-week direct Jakarta-Kuching flights starting June 15 are now open on the AirAsia superapp and AirAsia’s website.

Indonesia-Malaysia Business Council (IMBC) International Affairs director Senator Jaziri Alkaf Abdillah Suffian said flights are on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Apart from passenger flight service, he said the route also opens an abundance of opportunities for manufacturers and exporters from both countries through the end-to-end cargo and logistics service provided by Teleport by AirAsia.

“IMBC welcomes this great news and applauds the effort by AirAsia to provide better connectivity among countries in Asean, especially between Malaysia and Indonesia.

“Not only it serves as a unifying force for the people of both nations who share so many similarities, it also provides the much needed commercial and trade link between two of the region’s largest economies,” he said in a statement today.

Jaziri Alkaf also said the Jakarta-Kuching route is a boon for small traders and will directly benefit local industries.

“The route also prepares the two regions for the establishment of Indonesia’s new administrative capital, Nusantara.

“There is also the need to promote the uniqueness of Sarawak to our fellow Indonesian neighbours. We have a lot to offer: culture, eco-tourism, gastronomy and many more for our Indonesian friends to experience and enjoy.

“Find the uniqueness of Malaysia in Sarawak!” he added. — DayakDaily
