KUCHING, June 15: AirAsia’s Kuching-Jakarta direct flight will shorten the route’s travel time to about one and a half hours only, says Sarawak Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin.
Lee said that the shorter flight time will certainly help to make it more convenient not only for tourist and travelers, but also businessmen.
“This route will commence with three flights weekly, every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and depart at around 11.10am from Kuching,” he told a press conference held at Kuching International Airport (KIA) VIP Terminal today.
He said currently, AirAsia Malaysia flies between Singapore and three Sarawak cities namely Kuching, Miri and Sibu, making it the airline with the widest network between Singapore and Sarawak.
He also said that with this new route, Sarawak will have 44 international flights weekly from Jakarta, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam.
“KIA will receive 30 flights weekly, while Miri Airport will receive 10 flights weekly, and four flights weekly for Sibu Airport served by AirAsia Berhad, AirAsia-Jakarta, Malaysia Airlines Berhad, Scoot Tigerair and Royal Brunei Airlines,” he added. — DayakDaily
