Ahmad Zahid: Umno not spreading its wings to Sarawak

KUCHING, Sept 4: United Malays National Organisation (Umno) president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stressed that the political party would not be spreading its wings to Sarawak.

Ahmad Zahid said the political party has never intended to branch out to Sarawak.

“Umno has never intended to enter Sarawak.

“The decision is final. Umno is confident with Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), ever since Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) was formed to include the three political parties which were from the former Barisan Nasional (BN) government.

“Umno prays that GPS will continue to form the state government when the state election is held,” Ahmad Zahid said in a social media posting today.

Yesterday, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg during a function mentioned that if Umno were to come to Sarawak, it was their own matter.

He added that even if Sarawakians were to be elected as Umno leaders, they would not have powers or a say in the peninsular-based political party.

As such, he said Umno was not welcomed in Sarawak since they did not have any presence in the state.

Abang Johari stressed that there was only one platform in Sarawak which was GPS.

He stated that there were already six Malay-based political parties in Peninsular Malaysia. With the latest political party, Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) formed by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, he believed that it will further split the votes of the Malay community.

Hence, he called on Sarawakians to be united and support the GPS state government for continuous development and progress. —DayakDaily
