KUCHING, Aug 30: Tamilnadu Agrotourism Network Corporation India founder and managing director Arul James Edwin Thambu described the taste of empurau fish curry as delectable and nice.
Empurau fish curry was among the local dishes served for lunch to Sarawak Agrotourism Conference and Expo 2023 delegates during a visit to Borneo Empurau Farm And Resort Sdn Bhd in Tarat, Serian today. Empurau is Sarawak’s most expensive freshwater fish.
“I never heard of empurau fish, nor had I eaten this fish before. It is my first time having the empurau fish, and this experience will be cherished,” he told DayakDaily over lunch.
Thambu who hails from India, said that he is impressed by how the farm and resort showcases its agro-tourism products to visitors.
“This place is impressive and has plenty for visitors to experience about agro-tourism products. The expensive freshwater empurau fish should blend in well and could be a visitor’s attraction at the farm and resorts.
“I am very surprised that despite being a modern country, the culture here is very much preserved. The culture here is deeply rooted, and I had an insightful glimpse into tribal life at the living museum of the Sarawak Cultural Village,” he said.
Thambu, who is also one of the conference speakers, highlighted the importance of sharing knowledge in eco-community-based agriculture development related to agro-tourism.
He said such the Sarawak government’s approach to agro-tourism is based on similar concepts and practices in India.
“We (India and Malaysia) are like-minded on the subjects and eco-community-based agro-tourism will be the next level in the tourism industry worldwide,” he said. — DayakDaily
