Agong wraps up final pre-Cabinet meeting with PM Anwar before reign ends on Jan 30, 2024

KUCHING, Jan 24: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah held his final weekly pre-Cabinet meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur yesterday (Jan 23), before his five-year reign as Malaysia’s 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong ends on Jan 30.

“His Majesty has attended 160 pre-Cabinet meetings with four Malaysian prime ministers since ascending to the throne as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, the most recent being today.

“The first pre-Cabinet meeting was held on Feb 13, 2019.


“The pre-Cabinet meeting is one of the weekly or main routine activities of His Majesty to discuss and exchange views with the prime minister regarding government affairs and related issues,” according to a post on Istana Negara’s official Facebook page published yesterday (Jan 23).

Also present during yesterday’s meeting was chief secretary to the government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali.

Al-Sultan Abdullah took the oath of office and was sworn in on Jan 31, 2019 as the country’s 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

After Al-Sultan Abdullah’s term concludes at the end of the month, Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar will assume his role as the nation’s 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong. — DayakDaily
