KUCHING, Nov 5: Kuching City FC (KCFC) will be aiming to secure its maiden victory in the Asian Champions League 2 (ACL2) campaign when it takes on South Korean side Gangwon FC in a crucial Group H encounter at Taha Ariffin Stadium tonight.

Despite being without several key players, KCFC head coach Aidil Sharin Sahak remains optimistic that his available squad can rise to the occasion and give the visitors a strong challenge.

According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) report, Aidil said the match presents not only an opportunity to secure three valuable points but also a chance to measure his team’s ability against an opponent with considerable international experience.

While acknowledging Gangwon FC’s advantage in terms of experience and ranking, he stressed that his players would not be intimidated, particularly with home support behind them.

“We know they have quality and experienced players in competitions like this. However, this is our chance to challenge our own capabilities and see where our team stands when competing at this level,” he said at the pre-match press conference here on Nov 4.

KCFC, The Cats, will have to make several tactical adjustments following the absence of key players, including Ronald Ngah Wanja, who requires knee surgery and is expected to be sidelined for two months.

Also unavailable for the match are Jimmy Raymond, Adjin Mugajic and Ahmad Israiwah.

With The Cats also set to face Selangor FC in the second leg of their semi-final clash this weekend, Aidil said the immediate priority was to ensure the available players were fit and in the best possible condition for tonight’s encounter.

Meanwhile, KCFC player Filemon Anyi, who was also present at the press conference, described Gangwon FC as a well-organised and disciplined side.

However, he said the home players were ready to shoulder greater responsibility and make up for the absence of their injured teammates.

He also called on supporters to turn up in numbers and rally behind the team throughout the 90-minute contest. – DayakDaily
