KUCHING, April 25: AFFIN Bank has introduced a special AFFIN KENYALANG Savings Account-i that is exclusively for Sarawakians.

The new bank account (savings and current) is only available for eligible Sarawakians with ‘K’ on their MyKad (identification card).

Sarawakians can now apply for the account through AFFIN Bank’s official website at https://www.affinalways.com/en/affin-kenyalang-savings-account-i

Requirements to register for the account are as follows:

  • “Anak Sarawak (MyKad with “K”); or
  • Individuals with address in Sarawak
  • To qualify customers must meet one of the following criteria; they must be “Anak Sarawak” as indicated by a “K” on their MyKad, be students with an address in Sarawak, have a residential address in Sarawak, or have an office address in Sarawak.
  • Customers are required to provide supporting documents to the Bank to verify their status. Acceptable documents include an education letter, confirmation of learning institution on the status, student ID card (Matrix Card), electricity bill, water bill, telephone bill, lease agreement, employment letter, bank statement or any document (if required by the bank).

The AFFIN KENYALANG Savings Account-i is available as a personal account for individuals aged 18 years and above, with joint account options also available.

One of the most attractive features of this new account is that it requires zero initial deposit to open, eliminating financial barriers for Sarawakians wishing to establish a banking relationship with AFFIN Bank.

Additionally, the account maintains no minimum balance requirement, providing customers with complete flexibility in managing their finances.

Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian recently highlighted this development on his Facebook page, describing it as a ”priceless satisfaction of having a bank account specially reserved for Sarawakians”.

He further encouraged Sarawakians to support AFFIN Bank, noting it is one of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg’s ‘Sarawak First’ initiatives, with the State government holding a majority stake in the bank.

In late 2024, Sarawak made history as the first Malaysian state to acquire a major stake in a bank.

The acquisition was part of a broader strategy announced by Abang Johari and the move received conditional approval from Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) in June last year.

The Sarawak government’s strategic step into the banking sector is expected to foster greater economic potential, innovation, and access to financial resources for Sarawak’s development agenda. – DayakDaily
