Adverse weather forecast in 10 districts in S’wak until 7pm (Jan 2)

KUCHING, Jan 2: More rainfall and heavy winds are expected in 10 districts in Sarawak until 7pm tonight.

In an advisory issued by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) at 4pm today, the affected districts are:

  • Kuching (Bau and Kuching)
  • Serian
  • Samarahan
  • Sri Aman
  • Betong (Pusa, Betong, and Saratok)
  • Sarikei (Pakan and Julau)
  • Sibu
  • Bintulu (Tatau and Bintulu)
  • Miri (Subis, Miri, and Marudi)
  • Limbang

According to the department, a warning is issued when there are signs of a thunderstorm with an intensity of rain exceeding 20 mm/hour that is close to or expected to occur for more than an hour.


“A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release,” it said.

In addition, warnings were also issued to Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang, Dan Selama, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang, and Muallim), Selangor (Hulu Selangor, Gombak, and Hulu Langat), Kuala Lumpur, Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Seremban, Port Dickson, and Rembau), Melaka, Johor (Tangkak, Muar, and Batu Pahat), Sabah (Sipitang), and Labuan. — DayakDaily
