MIRI, July 21: The availability of child specialists at Miri Hospital is deemed sufficient, according to Deputy Minister of Health, Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni.
He stated that the hospital currently has five specialists, which meets the community’s needs.
Additionally, the opening of the new children’s ward in Block B (Miri Hospital’s new block) represents a significant step toward more comprehensive healthcare services.
Lukanisman made these remarks during a press conference earlier today, following the launch of the ‘Kembara Sihat Sejahtera HEPiLI’ event with Didi and Friends at Permaisuri Imperial Mall here.
“In response to concerns about specialist availability, I can confirm that Miri Hospital is adequately staffed. Furthermore, the recent inauguration of the children’s ward in Block B reflects our ongoing commitment to improving healthcare facilities,” he said.
He also highlighted the importance of Act 50, passed by the Cabinet, which simplifies the registration process for specialist doctors.
“This legislation is crucial for addressing expertise gaps in our healthcare system,” he added.
On another note, in response to a questioned posed by local media on murder victim Nur Farah Kartini Abdullah, 25, Lukanisman mentioned the involvement of Sarawak parliamentarians, including Dato Sri Nancy Syukri, in assisting the deceased’s family.
“We (Ministry of Health Malaysia) provided counseling services and other necessary support to Nur Farah’s family. We are committed to offering any further assistance they might need,” he said.
Nur Farah Kartini was reported missing on July 11.
The victim, who was a former UPSI student, worked at a car rental company. She went missing after delivering a rental car to a customer at a residential area at Tanjung Malim around 8am on July 10.
Her body was found near Felda Gedangsa in Hulu Selangor at around 6pm on Monday (July 15).
