KUCHING, Feb 1: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) wants additional tourist police to be deployed to their units to safeguard tourists and visitors to major tourist attractions in cities throughout Sarawak.

Its minister Dato Sri Tiong King Sing said he had requested this from Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Mohd Aman Ahamd Sapri, who he said is concerned with ensuring that there is no compromise when it comes to safeguarding tourists and visitors to the State.

“The police commissioner is responsive in assisting Motac with whatever is needed to enhance the tourism sectors in Sarawak,” he said.

”I have also requested additional tourist police to be stationed not only in the city of Kuching but also in Sibu and Bintulu,” he added.

Tiong told reporters this during his official working visit to Sarawak Police Contingent at their headquarters at Jalan Badruddin.

He added that he has also been briefed on how Motac and the police can enhance their working relationship and overcome weaknesses to ensure tourists and visitors have a pleasant stay in Sarawak.

“I am satisfied with how the police has assisted the ministry in the tourism sectors, and I would like those using social media to work together as well.

“Help tell the world about our country and not write negative stories so that people come to visit our country, notably Sarawak.

“I will do my best to enhance the tourism sector in Sarawak to attract more visitors,” he added. — DayakDaily
