KUCHING, Sept 28: Authorities are taking necessary steps to eradicate dengue issues affecting workers at the project site of the new Sarawak Museum Campus and Heritage Trail.

Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah gave his assurance that the authority would do resolve the issue immediately.

“I was informed that the new state museum project was huge and there was a lot of dumping that resulted in a lot of stagnant water at the site,” Abdul Karim told reporters, adding that empty cans and containers at the site also contributed to mosquito breeding grounds.

Sarawak Health director Dr Jamilah Hashim was reported as saying in a news report two days ago that the dengue outbreak was detected found at the project site.

Construction work at the new museum project site was ordered to be temporarily suspended from Sept 21-28 by the state Health Department through Kuching Divisional Health Office .

The order was issued under Section 8(3)(a) of the Destruction of Disease-Bearing Insects Act, 1975 (Amendment 2000). — DayakDaily
