KUCHING, March 12: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) youth calls for the acceptance of the verdict on “Allah” case as “to rekindle the same bigotry issue over and again is unwarranted”.
PRS youth chief Datuk Snowdan Lawan said since the Kuala Lumpur High Court had so decided and it should be left as it is.
“There should a time when an issue should be left settled. Let it not resurface, more so if the court had decided.
“To the court it was referred to, and by the court it had been decided. Accept the verdict then,” said Snowdan in a press statement yesterday.
Kuala Lumpur High Court had ruled that the non-Muslim community may use the word “Allah” in their preaching and publications.
The High Court said the community can also use the words “Baitullah”, “Kaabah” and “solat” for teaching purposes which the Malaysian government has banned for 35 years.
The landmark decision was made by Court of Appeal judge Datuk Nor Bee Ariffin, who sat as a High Court judge.
In response, the Muafakat Nasional (MN) consisting of UMNO and PAS called on for the case to be brought to the Appellate Court.
“How many more review or appeal, that each party has to make before we can honour the court’s decision?
“It has already been a waste of the court’s time and resources since 2008 when the legal battle first landed in the court 13 years ago.
“Yet, when the verdict was delivered there are quarters who refuse to honour it,” said Snowdan who is also Youth and Sports Assistant Minister.
He thus granted his support to PRS president Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing that the latter was right to say that it was “ridiculous” for political parties to demand for an appeal in view that Malaysia is a multi-religious country. — DayakDaily
