KUCHING, Nov 19: Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, if given the chance to contest in the 12th Sarawak Election, wishes to defend Asajaya rather than switch to another seat.

He said he first started his career in politics as an elected representative in Asajaya in 2001.

“If it is possible, I want to end my career as a politician in the same place (Asajaya). I think there is no need to switch (to other constituencies).

“As it is, I think I will stay put (in Asajaya) if I am given the chance to defend my seat in the coming state polls,” he told reporters after flagging off the ‘Hidden Gems in Borneo, Sarawak!’ road trip at Sin Chew Daily plant today.

He was responding to a reporter’s query on rumours that Abdul Karim would be fielded in the Satok seat, replacing its incumbent Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

This came following Abang Johari’s reveal on Nov 17 that he will consider contesting in the Gedong seat after Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais (Gedong incumbent) has announced his intention to quit. — DayakDaily
