KUCHING, Dec 30: A strong delegation comprising 20 delegates will be representing Sarawak at the upcoming Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) Convening Leaders 2020 (CL20) conference.

The conference to be held from Jan 5-9, 2020 in San Francisco, USA will be led by Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

Abdul Karim, who is also Minister of Youth and Sports is confident that the exchange will take Sarawak to new heights: ā€œSarawak is already associated with being a knowledge powerhouse in the region.

ā€œWhat this partnership does is make Sarawak the first second-tier destination to work with the largest global association and cement our credibility,ā€ he said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the trip to San Francisco for CL20 is organised by BESarawak, a non-profit organisation under Sarawak Convention Bureau and the Sarawak government.

It consists of industry leaders from the Sarawak government, Sarawak Forestry Corporation, Sarawak Tropical Peat Research Institute, Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), CPH Travel, Techno Expo and Events Horizon.

In the meantime, PCMA is the worldā€™s largest and most respected network of business events strategists aiming to drive social and economic change around the world.

The association aims to penetrate the Asia Pacific market after a long reign of success in the North American region.

Besides the exchange, BESarawakā€™s chairman Tan Sri Muhammad Leo Toyad believes that CL20 was expected to be a turning point for the Sarawak delegates to advance their profession

ā€œTo be on par with the worldā€™s best, we must foster a continuous learning momentum and that means being on board an excellent professional development opportunity such as this,ā€ he said in a statement.

Besides the conference and various networking sessions, BESarawak noted the delegates will be treated to a private educational tour by PCMA plus an exclusive meet with the PCMA Board of Directors.

Some of the highlights of the conference include a keynote address by Condoleezza Rice, the 66th United States Secretary of State, along with other notable keynote speakers such as Gene Kranz, retired NASA flight director, Simon Sinek, author and organisational consultant, and Bozoma Saint John, Chief Marketing Officer for Endeavor.
