KUCHING, Nov 23: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice president Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah (GPS-PBB) has urged people to stop spreading false information, put politics aside, and allow the King’s wisdom to determine who will be the next Prime Minister to lead the country.

Abdul Karim stated this to reporters after the Sarawak International Festival of Music and Arts (SIFMA) 2022 press conference, which was held today at the Bangunan Baitulmakmur II here.

“There are so many unscrupulous people out there spreading false information about this coalition not supporting this and that coalition supporting this.

“What I can say is that what went viral was fake news, and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) should take action against it.

“It appears that there are many people who dare to spread fake news,” he said when asked to comment on a viral message claiming that 13 MPs from Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) are not supporting Perikatan Nasional (PN) and its chairman, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, in the formation of the new government.

He also claimed, “I have attended a meeting chaired by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at 5pm Tuesday with all the MPs from Sarawak. How can there be another group of MPs?

“From what I could see then all the MPs were there except two including Anyi who had just won in Baram, while another had a pre-agreed programme to attend.”

Furthermore, Abdul Karim, who is also the Sarawak Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, advised the public to remain calm and allow the King’s wisdom to determine who will serve as the country’s Prime Minister.

“(But) enough with all the politics. We just had the election. Whoever is entrusted to be the Prime Minister should just bear his responsibility well. No need for politicking. We will not get anywhere and the rakyat will suffer,” he alleged.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday (Nov 22), there was a viral message claiming that 13 MPs from GPS are not backing PN and its chairman, Muhyiddin, in the formation of the new government.

It was communicated to the press via a graphic shared on the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas)’ WhatsApp media channel on Tuesday night.

The fake message had named the purported GPS MPs and said Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg must accede to the wishes of the majority to support ‘Anuar dan PH’. — DayakDaily
