KUCHING, Jan 12: The proposed formation of a new wing for youth aged 18 to 28 by Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) may yield positive outcomes in upcoming 15th General Election (GE15) which will be held in 2023 or earlier, says PBB vice president Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
This follows the landslide victory by Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) whereby the coalition won 76 out of the 82 seats in the 12th Sarawak Election in December last year.
Abdul Karim who is also Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister added PBB’s decision to establish the new wing is good strategy to reach out to young voters who will strengthen PBB in the present political climate.
“The all-round support on recent move by PBB in setting up a new wing for those aged 18 to 28 will augur well in our continuous efforts to provide opportunities for our young folks to be politically mature in deciding their future.
“Such move is also timely because it is important for us to ensure our future generation of politicians and leaders are keeping up with the latest political developments in Sarawak and in the country.
“Hence, PBB is making the necessary steps right now in order to stay relevant among all strata of the society including the members from different age groups,” he said in a statement today.
Adding on, Abdul Karim who is also Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister said the Undi18 constitutional amendments had shown that participation of young people in the local political scene is welcomed and its implementation supports PBB’s leadership talent grooming and development agenda.
He asserted that PBB under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg had planned the setting up of the new wing as the way forward in addressing the need and concerns of young folks in the 18 to 28 age group.
To recap, Abang Johari who is PBB president had on last Sunday (Jan 9) announced that the party will be setting up a new wing for those 18 to 28 years old.
He added the new wing will be officially formed during the party’s upcoming triennial general meeting (TGM) which will be held in June 2022. — DayakDaily
