KUCHING, July 28: There is no point for Sarawak to pass an anti-party hopping bill of its own in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) because the Election Act is a federal matter, says Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
“For Sarawak, we are just waiting for it to be gazetted to become a law that can be used, that is my personal opinion,” he said.
Abdul Karim told reporters this after attending the 23rd Meeting of ASEAN Sub-Committee on Culture (SCC) and the 11th Meeting of ASEAN Plus Three Cultural Cooperation (APTCCN) Gala Dinner held at local hotel, here today.
He was replying to a question from reporters on if an anti-party hopping bill should be passed in DUN after the anti-party hopping bill was passed in Parliament earlier today.
Meanwhile, commenting on the Bill which is the Constitutional (Amendment) Bill (No. 3) 2022 on Provision Preventing Members of Parliament from Switching Parties, Abdul Karim said it reflect the feeling among MPs regarding this matter.
“It is a good decision. I see it as a positive development that can lead to a better political journey for Malaysia,” he added.
