KUCHING, Sept 30: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice-president Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah opines that there is no need for the party to create a new Putera and Puteri wing for youths.

He was asked to comment following the the passing of the amendment of Federal Constitution to lower the voting age to 18.

“If you ask me personally, my perspective is that it is not necessary. PBB already has the Youth and Women’s wing which performs the same role and they already have their own plans on how to get closer to the 18-year-old group. Furthermore, if we create too many wings, it is hard to manage.

“However, it is possible that the party leadership may see it at another level and make some changes in deciding whether to set up a Putera and Puteri wing,” Abdul Karim explained at a press conference after launching the ‘Programme Ziarah Belia’ today.

As for other political parties in Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) collation, he said it is up to them if they want to create their own Putera and Puteri wing.

Meanwhile, he added that GPS-led state government had always been actively engaging with the youths in Sarawak and thus, the lowering of the voting age to 18 will not pose any major problem politically. — DayakDaily
