KUCHING, Nov 22: Democratic Action Party (DAP) Batu Kitang has proposed that a new primary and secondary school be built at the vicinity of Jalan Landeh, Kota Padawan.

Its chief Abdul Aziz Isa said the proposed new schools would cater for the growing number of students amid the overall population growth in the area.

“We hoped that the Pakatan Harapan (PH) federal government can consider our proposal to overcome congestion at the present schools at SK Landeh, SK Paya Mebi and SJK Chung Hua Batu 10.

“The new schools will allow students have a more conducive studying environment,” he said at the excellence students appreciation ceremony at SK Landeh here yesterday.

Abdul Aziz even suggested for the new schools be named SK RPR Taman Sri Permai and SMK Landeh.

He said SK Landeh, despite being a new school, will not be able to cater to the growing population amid the increasing residential and housing estates in the area.

He added that SK Paya Mebi will also face the same problem due to its limited classrooms. Even if the school is to be upgraded, only minimal work could be done due to the limited space at the school.

“Student intake to these schools are limited, as there are not enough classrooms to accommodate the new student population,” he continued.

Due to the limited classroom and student intake at both SK Landeh and SK Paya Mebi, parents in the area have to send their children a little bit further to SK Wira Jaya at Mile 8 and SK Semenggok at Mile 12, Abdul Aziz said.

“Even then, the parent can only send their children to study at SK Wira Jaya when there is vacancy, as most of the students in this school are children from the nearby army camp,” he continue

He expressed hope that the Ministry of Education will consider the suggestion for the well being of the people in the Padawan area.

At the event, Abdul Aziz who represented Sarawak Pakatan chairman Chong Chieng Jen, presented RM21,000 to the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of SK Landeh.

Chong, who is also state DAP chief, approved an allocation of RM30,000 to repair the gate of SK Landeh, which would be completed next week. — DayakDaily
